Leaking rooftop crack repair - New build - Greenwich

  • Project Type: Residential new build

  • Location: Greenwich, NSW

  • Client: Builder

  • Challenge: Remediation of the crack while allowing the old waterproofing membrane to be lapped onto later

  • Repair Method: Continuous dovetail cut along the length of the crack and application of Penecrete Mortar and Penetron

  • Scope: Rooftop crack

  • Outcome: Full sealed crack repair prior to a waterproof bandage being applied later

Project Overview

TruBond Concrete Repairs was engaged by the builder to undertake a crack repair that had developed post-application of the waterproof membrane on the roof of a luxury house build. This crack was allowing water to seep into the interior of the property. The Penetron system was selected as the method of repair due to its effectiveness, speed of application and the self healing properties of the product if future hairline cracks develop.

The Challenge

Due to Penetron requiring a dovetail cut along the length of the crack, it was imperative the the waterproof membrane either side was treated so that a new waterproof bandage could be applied later to reinstate a continuous membrane.

Remediation Strategy

After the extent of the crack was mapped, a v blade grinder blade was used to make an initial cut along the full extent of the crack. After this a grinder was used to create a dovetail/wedge shape, ensuring that the repair material would be mechanically keyed into the slab without risk of popping or delamination from the concrete substrate.

After this was done, the waterproof membrane was cut back on either side until it was clear that the delaminated membrane was removed and only well bonded membrane was remaining. The channel was primed with Penetron slurry and packed with Penecrete mortar, with a further Penetron slurry to seal the section.

Project Outcome

The repair successfully sealed the crack from any further moisture ingress within a day. Even prior to reapplication of the waterproof membrane, the Penetron system held up against exposed all weather conditions.
