Concrete cancer repairs
Concrete cancer eats structures from the inside out if left untreated…
At TruBond, you can rest assured that your most valuable asset is protected for years to come
What is Concrete Cancer?
Concrete cancer occurs when the steel reinforcement inside concrete begins to rust. As the steel corrodes, it expands, causing the surrounding concrete to crack, break away (spall), and weaken. This not only affects the appearance of the structure but also its strength and safety. If left untreated, concrete cancer spreads quickly, leading to costly repairs and potential structural failure.
If you notice cracks, rust stains, or chunks of concrete breaking away/delaminating it could be a sign of concrete cancer.
Acting early is the key to preventing further damage. Our specialists can assess the issue, explain your options clearly, and provide a long-lasting warranted repair before the problem spreads.
Why you should fix it now
Concrete cancer doesn’t get better with time—it only spreads. As the steel reinforcement continues to rust and expand, more concrete breaks away, weakening the structure and driving up repair costs. What starts as a small crack or rust stain can quickly turn into a major safety hazard that impacts your property’s value and usability.
Buildings in Sydney’s coastal suburbs are especially vulnerable to concrete cancer. The salty sea air carries chlorides that penetrate concrete and accelerate the rusting of steel reinforcement.
This is why balconies, facades, and car parks near the coast often show signs of deterioration much earlier than those further inland. If you live by the ocean, early detection and timely repair are critical to protecting your property from costly long-term damage.
Why CHoose trubond to repair your concrete
Every job is different, and requires careful planning and analysis to ensure the best result is achieved for your project.
As a licensed builder, we see below the surface, understand how to repair and protect your structure with best industry practices and offer a 10 Year Warranty on all repairs carried out!
Our process involves the following:
Analyze the job and site conditions to create a tailored solution that meets your budget and time constraints
Remove all loose and delaminated concrete to ensure we get back to sound material. This creates the new substrate for our structural repair mortar to bond to
After removing the delaminated concrete, the corroded reinforcement will be exposed. At this stage we will assess the condition of the steel and determine if any additional reinforcement should be installed to restore tensile strength to the concrete
All rust is removed from the bars and the area to be repaired is cleaned with a high pressure wash and left to dry
The rust free bars are painted with a double coat corrosion resistant inhibitor to ensure ultimate protection
Structural repair mortar is installed in place of the concrete that was removed
A skim coat of render or paint is applied to restore the aesthetic appeal of your structure
