Carbon fibre strengthening
Strengthen and reinforce existing concrete structures using high-performance carbon fibre systems
What is carbon fibre strengthening?
Carbon fibre strengthening is a structural reinforcement method used to increase the load-carrying capacity, stiffness or performance of existing concrete structures without the need for major demolition or reconstruction. High-strength carbon fibre reinforced polymer (CFRP) systems are bonded directly to concrete elements such as slabs, beams, columns and walls, allowing additional strength to be introduced with minimal weight and impact on the existing structure.
Carbon fibre strengthening can be used to address structural deficiencies, accommodate increased loads, reinforce new penetrations or modifications, and upgrade existing structures where conventional steel strengthening would be difficult or intrusive.
Carbon fibre strengthening provides an extremely high strength-to-weight ratio, allowing significant additional structural capacity to be introduced without the weight and bulk associated with conventional steel strengthening. CFRP systems have a very low profile, are resistant to corrosion and can often be installed with significantly less disruption to the existing structure.
This makes carbon fibre particularly advantageous where access is restricted, headroom must be maintained or additional dead load needs to be minimised. While steel strengthening remains appropriate for many applications, carbon fibre provides engineers with an efficient alternative where a lightweight, durable and minimally intrusive strengthening solution is required.
why cfrp instead of steel?
need cfrp for your project?
Whether you need to increase the load capacity of an existing slab or beam, strengthen around new penetrations, accommodate a change in building use, rectify inadequate reinforcement or upgrade an existing structure, carbon fibre strengthening can provide a high-strength solution without the weight and disruption associated with conventional structural alterations. CFRP systems can be externally bonded or installed as near-surface mounted reinforcement, allowing the strengthening solution to be tailored to the structural requirements and constraints of the project.
TruBond Concrete Repairs provides specialist structural strengthening and concrete remediation services across Sydney. Our experience in concrete repair means we understand that the performance of a CFRP system depends not only on the carbon fibre itself, but also on the condition and preparation of the concrete it is being bonded to. We work to engineered designs and manufacturer specifications, with careful attention given to substrate preparation, concrete repairs, bond requirements, installation and quality assurance throughout the strengthening process.
If your engineer has specified carbon fibre strengthening, send us your structural drawings, CFRP specification and project details and our team can review the scope and provide a tailored quotation.
